Please, don’t punish us.

I think we can all agree the world is a big, chaotic mess of swirling, unflushable poo right now. No question.

But I want to beg you for something. Like, really. Begging.

I know so many people in my sphere are kick ass people who are upset about the world and what’s going on. And we’re all about trying to stand up and fix things in the ways that we can. For many, that means no longer shopping on Amazon or using Kindle stuff.

And I hate to say it, but that’s going to hurt a whole lot of people who aren’t Amazon. Particularly authors.

You see, indie authors in particular have no other outlet. Amazon has made it so self publishing is not only viable, but you can make a living writing in a way you can’t with traditional publishers. So unless you buy paperbacks directly from the author, or you go into a bookstore and request our books (because they probably won’t be carrying them already) boycotting buying off Amazon means our books fall, and fall fast, into the dust pile of the unread.

And then we don’t make the money we need to pay the bills. So we have to go get day jobs, and that means we don’t have time or energy to write. And then those great indie authors are…gone. Those books with a diverse selection of characters, that really, really matter to people…they’re no longer available.

If you don’t buy anything else from Amazon, that’s awesome. But please, please don’t forget about the indie authors who need you over there.

My book, Ship of Dreams, is suffering over there, as I know many other author’s books are. Please don’t give up on us.
